The Rapid City New Horizons Band was started in 1997 by Milo Winter, the director then and now. It is both a concert band and dance band, and it is part of an organization known as the New Horizons International Music Association. Originally, these bands (and orchestras and choruses now) were started to provide the opportunity for older folks (50+, but now mostly just adults) to learn to play a musical instrument and then play in a musical ensemble like a band.
