Arts Rapid City
Connecting Creative Makers and Shakers within our Community.
We are so, so glad you are here. Because, well, that’s why we are here. We are here for you. We are also here to promote art-powered community development; build connections for the creative industries that make our region a desirable place to live, work, and visit; encourage collaboration and provide marketing and educational tools to help creatives strengthen the value of the arts in everyone’s lives; and respond to our community’s arts and culture needs.
Even though this website is brand-spanking new, it’s development has a longer history. So grab some tea, a comfortable seat, and read on.
In 2012, the John T. Vucurevich Foundation established The Future of the Arts Collaborative in Rapid City, an inclusive coalition of arts stakeholders. The Collaborative worked for over 18 months to develop strategies to build cohesion, efficiency, and community connectivity among arts organizations in Rapid City. They voted on what they believed the arts could benefit from most and a centralized website made the top of the list.
A committee formed and researched other communities with central event calendars and online resources for the arts. They applied for a Bush Foundation Community Innovation Grant. The program supports organizations working to create or implement an innovative solution to address a community need or opportunity. The innovation must be developed through community-powered problem-solving—inclusive, collaborative processes focused on making the most of community assets. To apply for the grant, the Collaborative committee partnered with Destination Rapid City.
In November 2013, the Community Innovation Grant was awarded to develop and promote Arts Rapid City. This was a total game-changer. The vision became reality and three staff were hired to see it through to fruition. So here we are!
This website is amazing and totally free because…
ArtsRapidCity.org is supported by the Bush Foundation Community Innovation Grant, the John T. Vucurevich Foundation, Destination Rapid City, and the South Dakota Arts Council.
We thank you for this happy achievement!
